Nature and popular culture are the primary inspirations for my art. These influences direct the subject matter and mediums I employ, resulting in representational or abstracted landscapes - or of "pop" inspired compositions.
The play of light and innumerable nuances of color in nature fascinate me. I may begin an abstract painting with a few marks on the canvas and use my artistic knowledge and intuition to take the work in an intended direction. Representational work – with its apparent subject matter - still characterizes my desire to be expressive and permit the work to speak to me as it is developed.
Pop-inspired paintings often begin as paper or mixed media compositions – as small as two or three inches in dimension. I reference these models in the creation of to-scale reproductions on large canvases.
My work is intended to provoke an emotional response based on the viewer’s own filters and interpretation.
